The production plant in Switzerland is certified regarding the following standards

ISO 9001, 14001, ISO 45001 (Switzerland)

The quality management system ISO 9001 serves as a tool for the enhancement and continuous improvement of our performance and ultimately boosts the quality of the products we produce and supply, in turn leading to very high levels of customer satisfaction.

Unisto meets all requirements with regard to ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System). We see it as our obligation to adhere to all the guidelines relating to health and safety now and in the future, and thus to ensure a safe working environment for our employees and the trust of our customers.

When required to do so, we can also make these certificates and data sheets available to customers.
Our environmental management system was introduced after first setting out our sustainability policy and goals from which we developed our environmental program. We are committed to continous improvement by continual environmental management review.

All this means that when you purchase Unisto security seals, you can be certain that all of the environmental aspects have been taken into account.

REACH (1907/2006/EC)

The aim of the REACH regulation (1907/2006/EC) is the protection of human health and the environment through early and improved identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances.

According to the EU Chemical Regulation REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), since 2007 only chemical substances that have been registered may enter into circulation within Europe.

As the “downstream user”, Unisto does not have an obligation to register the manufactured products. We identify fully with REACH and work exclusively with suppliers whose raw materials are appropriately registered.

The regulation came into force on 1 June 2007 and has the following primary objectives:

  •  To better protect humans and the environment from possible risks in the handling of chemicals.     Here it is the responsibility of industry to undertake risk assessments
  •  To enable the free circulation of chemical substances within the EU
  •  To boost competition and innovation
  •  To promote alternative test methods for the evaluation of risks

Moreover the raw materials employed to produce our goods comply with the material and substances defined in the articles 33 and 57 of the Regulation 1907/2006/EC (ECHA Canditate-List of substances of very high concern), meaning that no materials and substances from this list are used.
REACH Confirmation (Switzerland)

Food law provisions

Tests carried out at an independent testing institute have shown that many of our products and synthetic colours correspond to the requirements of EU Regulation 1935/2004 “Materials and articles intended to come into contact with food”, including EU Regulation 10/2011 “Plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food”.

Known consignor

A known consignor is a company that sends goods via air freight or airmail in its name and on its own account. When dispatching it adheres to security standards and provisions that are applicable.

Certification as a known consignor (for air freight only) saves time-consuming and costly checks at the airport.
A known consignor carries out the checks itself and is responsible for the item’s safe passage.
Thereafter the freight can be moved to the airport cargo handler using a certified carrier and loaded directly on to the aircraft.
The following points are ensured:

  • Protection of air freight from unauthorised access
  • Deployment of verified, specially trained staff
  • Control and protection of cargo from access and tampering
  • Consignment-based security declaration
  • Guaranteeing security requirements throughout the entire transport chain

Since Unisto AG, Horn is a validated known consignor, our customers save both time and additional costs.

EcoVadis

As an internationally active company, Unisto is aware of its responsibility towards its customers, employees and the environment.  In order to create even more transparency with regard to sustainability, fair working conditions and human rights, we have had ourselves audited and certified by EcoVadis. EcoVadis is an internationally recognised and independent platform that audits companies in the area of "corporate social responsibility" (CSR).

The audit is carried out according to specific criteria from the following subject areas:

  • Environmental sustainability
  • labour and human rights
  • ethical principles
  • Sustainable procurement
  • This medal clearly underlines our Unisto Green Footprint philosophy.

It symbolises our environmental commitment and our sustainable, efficient use of resources.

Swiss Climate

The Swiss Climate “CO2 OPTIMISED” certificate confirms that the company Unisto AG in Horn has prepared its greenhouse gas inventory in accordance with the ISO 14064-1 standard for the year 2021 and follows the guidelines of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

Unisto has implemented an environmental management system according to ISO 14001 and is expanding its commitment to climate protection with a comprehensive CO2 management system. This includes calculating its carbon footprint, which serves as the basis for setting reduction targets and measures, as well as tracking progress toward achieving the targets in the coming years.

In line with these efforts, Unisto uses environmentally friendly and resource-saving technologies and materials wherever possible. Recycling and waste separation are actively promoted, with recyclable waste being processed off-site for reuse. Material consumption is reduced by actively redesigning the product range, including new applications with digital solutions, and by switching products from single-use to reuse applications. Employees are actively encouraged to be environmentally conscious at all times and are regularly informed about environmental activities.

Compliance with the label's certification guidelines was verified by the independent auditing company true&fair.expert. The validity of the label is 5 years, a control audit takes place annually.

CDP

CDP is a non-profit organization that has been collecting and analyzing environmental data from companies worldwide on CO₂ emissions, climate-related risks and strategies to reduce CO₂ emissions for more than 20 years. The organization operates the world's leading environmental information disclosure system.

Based on the strategies, measures and data submitted, Unisto was already rated B at the first participation and classified in the highest category currently possible for us. The comparison within the industry confirms that we are on the right track with our climate policy. This is because the global scoring average in the plastics processing industry is a C. Two

levels below the result achieved by Unisto.

This excellent rating was achieved mainly thanks to 3 factors:

  • Detailed disclosure about emissions
  • Implementation of its own CO₂ management system
  • Unisto's green footprint strategy
